Dreaming of water
Water is read twice at once in Korean tradition: as wealth, and as the state of your feelings. Which reading applies is decided by one thing — whether the water was clear.
In Korean 해몽 water is 재물, wealth, and the connection is direct: in an agricultural country water was the year's harvest, so a dream full of water was a dream of plenty. But the tradition reads a second layer at the same time, and it hinges on clarity. Clear water is read as fortune arriving cleanly and as feelings that have settled. Muddy or stagnant water is read as the same fortune tangled with something unresolved — the old books do not call it misfortune, they call it water that needs to settle. Scale is read as scale: a wide sea is read larger than a stream.
- Clear water, a spring, or a clean river
- The full auspicious reading: wealth arriving without complication, and a mind that has finished sorting something.
- Muddy, churning, or stagnant water
- Read as fortune tangled rather than fortune denied, and as feelings still in motion. A dream about timing, not about loss.
- A flood, or water rising into a house
- Read by volume, and volume is read as scale — the old books often turn a great flood toward great fortune rather than ruin.
- You drink the water, or carry it home
- Read as taking the fortune into your keeping, the same way holding a pig is read more strongly than seeing one.
Water is the oldest picture the mind has for feeling, and dreams reach for it when something emotional is moving faster than you have had time to name. Notice whether the water in your dream was calm or churning — not as a verdict, just as information about how the last few days have actually been landing.
Was my dream bad because the water was dirty?
The tradition does not read it as bad. It reads it as the same wealth sign with something unsettled mixed in — water that needs to clear, not water that has turned against you.
Is dreaming of the sea different from a stream?
Only in scale. The tradition reads a wider body of water as a wider reading of the same thing, not as a different symbol.
Is a flood dream a warning?
Most Korean readings turn a great flood toward great fortune, on the same logic that makes volume mean scale. It is not read as a warning about anything real.
